The Georgian defense minister on Sunday told a press briefing that the country would assist in the security efforts of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games to be held in Sochi, Russia.
The Georgian defense minister said that Georgia would cooperate with the games' hosts but cooperation format would be decided later.
"It's in our best interests that the (Sochi) Olympic Games be held in a peaceful environment," said Defense Minister Irakli Alasania.
"It will be decided in the near future in what forms security cooperation with Russia can be forged. In case of security issues, the driving force are the ministries of internal affairs and defense (from Georgia)," added the minister.
The South Caucasus country has expressed its willingness to participate in the Sochi games and the country's prime minister, Bidzina Ivanishvili, even suggested that he would not brush aside an invitation to take part in the opening ceremony of the games in the Russian Black Sea city.
Georgia has planned to compete in four sports, including alpine skiing, figure skating, luge and snowboarding, in Sochi.
