President of Comoros Ikililou Dhoinine Madi arrived at the Baghdad airport Monday night, as the first Arab country leader to participate in the Arab League (AL) summit in the Iraqi capital slated for March 27 to March 29, the state-run Iraqia TV channel reported.
Ikililou and his delegation were officially received at the airport by Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and some senior Iraqi officials, the TV channel said.
Earlier Monday, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain's permanent representatives to the AL, Ahmed Abdul Aziz Qattan and Ahmed al- Hajiri, arrived in Baghdad with their countries' delegations for the summit.
At around midday, the channel said Iraq received the Algerian economic delegation, headed by Algerian Minister of Trade Mustapha Benbada, as the first Arab delegation to participate in the ministerial meeting on Tuesday.
The Jordanian, Palestinian, Omani and Lebanese delegations are also expected to join Tuesday's meeting.
The Arab summit, to be held on March 29, will be preceded by a meeting for Arab economic ministers on March 27 and foreign ministers on March 28. |
