One Bedouin and another unidentified person were possibly killed at the Egyptian-Israeli border area during clashes between police and smugglers, an Egyptian source said.

The source said the second person was in military uniform but no document could confirm his identity so far. The military source had initially said one was an Israeli soldier.

Egyptian Youm 7 newspaper's website posted a different report, saying that deadly clashes erupted on Tuesday afternoon between gang of smugglers and Egyptian police along the Egyptian-Israeli border.

A person who may be an Israeli or Egyptian has been killed and two Egyptians were injured, the report said. Israeli soldiers were chasing gangsters who returned back to Sinai, the report added.

North Sinai security directorate sent a great number of security forces there to control the situation amid the ongoing clashes, the report said.
