Palestinian suspect of stabbing Israeli caught
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-04-24 17:08

Israeli security forces have arrested a Palestinian man they suspect of stabbing a Jewish Israeli taxi driver for nationalistic motives early Tuesday morning.

Details of a partially-rescinded gag order said the driver told police that the suspect hailed him down late Monday night in the city of Kfar Saba, north of Tel Aviv.

The suspect then stabbed the driver in the stomach and fled. The driver, who sustained moderate wounds, was able to alert other drivers, who aided police in locating the suspect, according to the Army radio.

Police used helicopters to track down the man a short time later, who confessed to the stabbing. Officials said they believe he had no accomplices, and was found to be working in Israel illegally, according to the Ha'aretz daily.

The attack follows a string of similar terrorist stabbings over the last two months.

In Jerusalem last week, police apprehended two Palestinian suspects shortly after they were said to have stabbed a Jew in the city's eastern Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

Several weeks ago, police in Jerusalem arrested a Palestinian for an ax attack against an elderly Israeli man as he returned from morning prayers at the Western Wall in the Old City.

In another attack in March, a Palestinian in Jerusalem stabbed a woman soldier on the city's light rial line. Police caught the suspected assailant a short time later.

All of the victims sustained moderate to serious wounds, and are recovering.
