Lebanese speaker calls on national dialogue to end disputes
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-05-23 23:28

Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri reiterated Wednesday his call to convene the national dialogue in order to reach an agreement and end the domestic disputes, especially after the unrest in the country's north.

On the occasion of the Resistance and Liberation day, which falls on May 25, the speaker congratulated the Lebanese people, hoping this day would stand as an opportunity to maintain the country's stability and sovereignty.

"On this occasion, we would like all sides to halt their campaigns against the resistance because we are all responsible for defending our country," he said, noting that the Resistance and Liberation day this year came amid great tensions which "aimed at dragging Lebanon towards strife and spreading the regional unrest to the country."

"This worrisome reality requires all powers to assume their responsibilities towards maintaining civil peace and preventing the violation of red lines that may lead Lebanon to chaos," the speaker stressed.

The Saudi monarch urged on Tuesday the Lebanese factions to resume dialogue, voicing fears that the recent unrest could lead to strife in Lebanon.
