Lebanese President Michel Suleiman on Tuesday congratulated Egyptian President-elect Mohamed Morsi for his victory in the election and expressed hope that Egypt would enjoy peace and stability, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.

Suleiman contacted Morsi by phone to extend his congratulation, the NNA said, adding that the Lebanese president expressed hope that Egypt will enjoy peace and stability and the democratic climate will bring prosperity for the Egyptian people.

Suleiman also said that Lebanese-Egyptian bilateral relations would witness continuous cooperation in various fields.

Morsi, a candidate of the Muslim Brotherhood, defeated his opponent Ahmed Shafiq, the last prime minister during former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's rule, with 51.7 percent of the votes in the run-off of Egypt's recent presidential election.
