Indonesia exports rise in February
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-04-02 14:08

Indonesia export in February increased by 8.54 percent to 15.65 billion U.S. dollars despite slowing global demand of commodities, the Statistic Bureau announced here on Monday.

Compared to the previous month, the shipping of the goods to overseas also increased by 0.49 percent in the month, head of the Statistic Bureau Suryamin said.

"This is a good sight for our exports, because according to the historical record of our exports from 2004 to 2011, the exports had been always down at the period," he told a press conference.

The growth of exports from Indonesia had shown a downward trend last year by up to January as the debt crisis in Europe has trimmed the demand of commodity from emerging Asia.

Indonesia relies on export less than other Asian peers in which it only accounts of about 26 percent of the GDP, according to Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan.

The Southeast Asia's largest economy's huge domestic consumption of over 238 million people and growing investment are expected to make up the loss from exports.

Indonesia's exports are dominated by natural resources commodity products and plantation crops.

On import, it increased by 27.26 percent to 14.95 billion U.S. dollars in February year on year, said Suryamin.
