Canadian stock market rebounds Thursday

Canadian main stock market rose Thursday after China said it agreed to hold trade talks with the United States this month.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index rose 77.15 points, or 0.48 percent, to close the day at 16,225.65 points.

The Canadian dollar edged down 0.09 cent to 0.7603 U.S. dollar.

The energy group added 0.97 points, or 0.50 percent, while the financials sector climbed 1.91 points, or 0.62 percent.

The most actively traded shares by volume were Aurora Cannabis Inc., Canopy Growth Corp. and MEG Energy Corp.

Aurora Cannabis Inc. fell 2.04 percent to 6.25 Canadian dollars on 11.48 million shares.

Canopy Growth Corp. lost 3.6 percent to 40.68 Canadian dollars on 8.58 million shares.

MEG Energy Corp. rose 2.06 percent to 7.42 Canadian dollars on 6.23 million shares.
