Tokyo stocks extend gains in morning on buybacks after Nikkei's drop
Tokyo stocks extended gains Tuesday morning as the yen's softer tone and higher Asian stocks encouraged investors to buy back issues after the Nikkei's sharp fall a day earlier.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 136.24 points, or 0.61 percent, from Monday to 22,407.54.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 7.47 points, or 0.45 percent, at 1,682.91.
Mining, oil and coal product, and real estate-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
