French shares lost on Thursday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 down 0.55 percent, or 28.16 points, to close at 5,116.79 points.

Of the 40 selected large companies, 27 lost in the day.

French-Italian multinational electronics and semiconductor manufacturer STMicroelectronics was down 5.09 percent, the top loser of the blue chips. French infrastructure material producer Saint-Gobain lost 3.56 percent. French international luxury group Kering lost 3.28 percent.
