South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co Ltd just unveiled two new Galaxy A series phones, the Galaxy A6s and Galaxy A9s, for Chinese millennials, as part of its efforts to expand market share in the world's largest smartphone market.

The two medium-end smartphones will satisfy Chinese youths' needs in photography and social communication, and let young consumers explore, find and share more fun in their daily lives, according to Samsung.

"Chinese young consumers pay much attention to smartphones, entertainment function and appearance design," DJ Koh, president and CEO of the IT & Mobile Communications Division of Samsung Electronics, said.

The new Galaxy A series of smartphones is powered by the Snapdragon 660 chipset and feature color gradient glass bodies. Priced at 3,499 yuan ($502.1), the Samsung Galaxy A9s, which is fitted with a super AMOLED of 6.3-inches, is the world's first smartphone to feature four rear-mounted cameras. The quad camera setup includes an 8-megapixel, 120-degree ultra wide-angle lens. A fingerprint scanner is available on the rear shell of the phone.

The Galaxy A6s features glass panels on its front and rear sides. The handset measures 156.3 x 76.5 x 8.4mm and weighs 183 grams. At the front is a 12-megapixel selfie snapper, and the handset is fitted with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Statistics from market research firm International Data Corp showed that Huawei continued to lead China's smartphone market with shipments of 28.5 million units during the second quarter of this year, taking up a 27.2 percent market share.

However, Samsung once again remained the leader in the worldwide smartphone market, shipping 71.5 million units in the second quarter of the year, despite a 10.4 percent decline in shipments from last year.
