Tokyo stocks lose ground in morning

Tokyo stocks lost ground Monday morning.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 258.61 points, or 1.16 percent, from Friday to 21,985.05.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 12.68 points, or 0.76 percent, to 1,646.08.

Pulp and paper, miscellaneous product, and oil and coal product-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
