Global automobile sales by South Korean carmakers fell last month on weak demand from overseas, industry data showed on Monday.

Combined sales by Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors, GM Korea, Ssangyong Motor and Renault Samsung came to 720,892 units in November at home and abroad, down 4.9 percent from a year earlier.

Domestic car sales fell 0.34 percent over the year to 139,862 vehicles, and auto export declined 6 percent to 581,030 units last month.

The export fall was attributed to soft demand from countries such as the United States.

Hyundai, the country's biggest automaker, sold 64,131 cars at home and 339,250 vehicles abroad in November. The carmaker's local sales rose 0.4 percent, but its overseas sales slumped 5 percent.

Kia, affiliated with Hyundai, sold a combined 247,115 vehicles globally in November, down 3.8 percent from a year earlier.

GM Korea's local car sales kept rising for three straight months, but its global car sales reduced 9 percent to 38,621 units due to weak overseas demand.

Renault Samsung's global auto sales tumbled 27.8 percent on lower export, but Ssangyong Motor's car sales gained 9 percent on strong demand in the domestic market.
