Tokyo stocks open higher as rising U.S. stocks, weaker yen lifts mood
Tokyo stocks opened higher on Monday with investor sentiment bolstered by U.S. shares rising at the end of last week and a comparatively soft yen adding to a buoyant market mood and lifting exporters.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 133.94 points, or 0.59 percent, from Friday to 22,735.71.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 10.41 points, or 0.61 percent, to 1,719.61.
Oil and coal product, nonferrous metal, and iron and steel-linked issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
