Tokyo stocks open higher on Wall Street's overnight gains, election results in focus
Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday as Wall Street's gains overnight set a positive tone here early on ahead of midterm election results in the United States.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 118.15 points, or 0.53 percent, from Tuesday to 22,265.90.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 9.23 points, or 0.56 percent, to 1,668.58.
Marine transportation, information and communication, and warehousing and harbor transportation service issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
