Tokyo stocks lost ground Wednesday morning as a drop in long-term U.S. Treasury yields sparked concern among investors about the pace of growth in the U.S. economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 89.11 points, or 0.40 percent, from Tuesday to 21,946.94.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 4.80 points, or 0.29 percent, at 1,644.40.

Insurance, oil and coal product, and securities house-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
