Tokyo stocks lose ground in morning on concerns over U.S. economic outlook
Tokyo stocks lost ground Thursday morning as an overnight drop in European shares on concerns over the outlook of the U.S. economy, dented investor sentiment here and weighted on the market mood.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 404.35 points, or 1.84 percent, from Wednesday to 21,514.98.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 26.52 points, or 1.62 percent, at 1,613.97.
Electric appliance, pharmaceutical and precision instrument-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
