Tokyo stocks opened lower on Thursday following a plunge on Wall Street overnight after the U.S. Federal Reserve hiked its key interest rates and suggested there could be further hikes.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 232.53 points, or 1.11 percent, from Wednesday to 20,755.39.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 10.62 points, or 0.68 percent, at 1,545.53.
