Tokyo stocks open lower following Wall Street's overnight decline
Tokyo stocks opened lower Friday following a plunge on Wall Street overnight and stronger yen.
As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 99.19 points, or 0.49 percent, from Thursday to 20,293.39.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 12.27 points, or 0.81 percent, at 1,504.89.
Marine transportation, retail and consumer credit issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
